Los Federales

Federales FAQ's

Who are Federales? Anyone with their proverbial hand dipped into the underground scene surely knows Federales, the seminal California punk band that inspired the likes of The Replacements, Big Star, Syd Barret, Sonic Youth, and even Roky Erikson. Errr, actually Federales is a great new college rock band out of the South Bay. Their mix of overlapping melodies and lo-fi rec-room rock strums make them a great listen for anyone who's ever enjoyed The Pixies, Jawbreaker, or X.

What are they up to now? Federales have just wrapped up their first tape on Flabbergast Records, the very same label that brought us Spider Rico's The Things You See When You Don't Have A Gun last year, a striking success for the loudest band in Campbell. Next Federales plans on beginning their grueling new "50 States in 50 Years" tour.

How can I get in the Federales fan club? Let Charles know. Include your name, address, e-mail address, and birthday. If the band bothers to remember your birthday, you'll receive some Sambo's gift certificates on your special day.

Meet Federales

Melissa Mueller (vocals): The youngest and newest member of the band. Currently residing in Santa Cruz and looking for some sort of life direction. Previously known for singing with Stanford band Breakfast All Day and studio work with Mountain View-based Xantham Gum. Additional talents include keyboard and clacking.

Kevin Tabari (bass): Architect by day, bassist by night. Grew up in the south bay, schooled at Bellarmine College Prep where he befriended drummer, Charles. Psychology at Duke, architecture at UW. Misses his graduate days in Seattle. Plays in Spider Rico with guitarist Dan.

Charles Gillet (drums): Computer geek suburbanista who picked up the drums under orders from Kevin and Dan. Blame him if you think this web site sucks, but it's still way better than his drum playing. Charles is married to gorgeous renowned Federales groupie, Mira.

Dan Cerny (guitar): Best remembered for playing Nicholas on "Eight Is Enough". Was once honored for his typing skills in the 7th grade. The first album he ever bought was Andy Gibbs' Shadow Dancing.
